Question 1: Is Chicago a Safe and Secure City?

The topmost question asked from us is whether it’s safe to live in Chicago? Of course, it’s a very basic necessity of life, and asking this question before actually making a move is reasonably practical. Any city not providing their residents the security and safety of their lives and property are not worth living in. So, is Chicago safe to live? Our answer is YES! Below are some reasons why.

  • Mobs are Ancient History

If you’re a movie fanatic, then you might have watched Al Calope, Scarface, The Untouchables, and a lot more like these. Back then, the crime and murder rate were even higher than the Willis Tower.

The ‘Chicago Outfit,’ also known as the ‘Chicago Mob,’ has become a blast of the past. Although they still exist in history and culture locally, they do not have the same influence as they used to.

  • Law and Order

If you want facts, then hear this out. Chicago has more appointed officers per capita than even New York, Los Angeles, and Houston. That too with the largest police budget recorded. The crime rate has reduced to 30 percent in recent years.

With a diverse population with 77 neighborhoods and immigrants, the community itself stands tall beside one another.

You can even get a concealed carry permit for self-defense, just be careful on where you carry.

Feel Safe in the Buzzing Nightlife

Whether it’s night or day, Chicago is safe to explore the two shades of the city. So, you don’t have to worry about gangsters when you’re strolling at night, going to the theatre, or cruising in the river to see the sparkling skyscrapers. Nor do you have to keep an eye out for muggers in the day.

Question 2: Is Living in Chicago Affordable?

  • Real Estate

Compared to other cities like San Francisco, New York, and LA is considered cheaper.

If you’re talking about real estate, then its cost varies from the mid-city to the suburbs. Of course, the prices are higher towards the downtown and gradually decrease till the outskirts, so it means a diverse range of prices can fit in diverse people.

A unique thing about Chicago is that it is the second on the list to offer the most starter homes. Due to falling mortgage rates, the lowest amount in the price band promotes entry-level housing. This way, it welcomes families to own their own house without worrying about renting and saving more.

So, even if you’re a middle-income family, you can easily purchase property in the city’s good areas.

  • Can Chicago Give You the Dream Lifestyle?

Talking about the lifestyle, Chicago is vast in providing that. You can get food and entertainment by spending whatever you are comfortable with. Trust me! Chicago won’t disappoint. You get to maintain your living standard in Chicago if you’re working a consistent job.

  • Jobs

If you’re moving to Chicago after college, then you’ll be glad to hear that many opportunities and great jobs (with good paychecks) await you. With a high employment rate and the job market thriving as ever before, you get all sorts of organizations ready to hire the best talent.

Question 3: Is Going around Chicago Really that Easy?

Glad that you brought that up! Moving around Chicago is easy. Here’s how:

  • The Second Largest Transportation System

Who needs a car when you live in a city that possesses the second biggest transportation system? It not only saves you the hassle of getting stuck in the rush hour, but it also saves the issue of paying parking fees.

The system provides various options, depending on the purpose and where you live in the city. It consists of 129 bus routes, 8 L trains, and a high-speed Metra commuter rail train with 145 rail stations. A Ventra Card is a quick payment facility for frequent travelers. All you have to do is tap or recharge it with an app.

The L service and the bus system are reliable for early birds who are in a hurry. The Metra is convenient for those living in the suburbs. A transit app will also give you the time and location of the buses and trains coming your way.

  • Inexpensive Traveling

The fare? Only 2 dollars and 50 cents (as of today). Need to change trains? All you need is an additional charge of 25 cents, no matter where you have to go. Yep! It’s that affordable!

If you want something more flexible than taxis, rent divvy bike rides, Uber, and Lyft services are other convenient options.

  • Chicago’s Special Modes of Transportation

You probably have seen the iconic bright blue divvy bikes on TV or other media. With 600 stations and over 6000 plus bikes across this fantastic city, you can enjoy it to the fullest. And the best part? It comes with bonus health benefits. It’s now a part of Chicago’s lifestyle and affordable as well.

There’s an option to become an annual member or buy a pass from the station kiosk or the app. The cost of a single ride is only $3.30 on a 30-minute trip, but it will cost you only 15 cents on an extra minute.

You can even get a day pass at $15 with unlimited rides for a day consisting of up to 3 hours each. Yearly membership is only $9 per month. Wanna know the best part? They give a 75-dollar annual pass on Black Friday.

A lot of people go for Divvy Bikes. No wonder Chicago is so clean. With stations almost everywhere, you can go to any corner of the city without facing awful traffic.

The water taxis are another city favorite. A one-way ticket costs $6, while the Chicago River Architectural tour is only $60. A great option to travel by if you’re up for a relaxing excursion. So, if you have friends and family in town for a visit, it’s a great way to show off the city you live in.

If you own a car, you’ll require a Car sticker within your first 30 days of becoming a resident in Chicago.

  • Parking with Ease

If you do happen to own a fancy car, that’s cool too because you can make parking reservations and abundant parking facilities.

Chicago also encourages the old fashion way. The pedestrian walkway, aka ‘the pedway,’ consists of underground tunnels and overhead bridges that link 40 blocks.
